A section win was enough to lift Dave Wride into pole
position with a one point advantage over former league leader Mike Nicholls.
Despite the recent cold snap Withy Pool was in reasonable form for the occasion and quality bream to almost
6lb featuring in several of the top weights.
The top
rod was Harry Muir who poled red maggot both long and short off peg 66 and weighed-in
an eight bream catch totalling 23-5-0.

An hour long ice breaking session preceded
this match. Competitors smashed through an inch thick covering with 14lb weights
yet, despite the violent disruption and the persisting sub-zero temperatures all but 4 of the 20 participants caught fish
and weighed in.
Top of the scoresheet was league leader Mike Nicholls who poled double pinkie over a pinkie laced groundbait up to 6 metres centre off disabled
peg 8 and brought a superb 17-4-0 of skimmers and roach to the scales.
Match
organiser Mike Jones short-poled a variety of baits at dead depth off disabled peg 11 and claimed
the runner-up spot with a creditable 8-12-0 of skimmers and roach.
Third
was Bob “The Bread” Price who poled his favourite bait up to 5 metres centre off
peg 30 for a 7-4-0 catch of skimmers and roach .
A Veals
Tackle voucher for the biggest fish of the competition went to Paul Staite who netted a 1-4-0
bream at point peg 16.

Angler's Mail 2011 Best Club Award
Congratulations to the Bathampton Angling Association for winning the
Angler's Mail Best Club of 2011 award. A spokesman
on behalf of the BAA committee said: "We are very pleased to accept the award on behalf of all the hard working volunteers
who run the club." The Bathampton AA not
only cater for able bodied match, pleasure and carp anglers but are justifiably proud of the huge band of experienced and
skilled volunteers who look after its disabled, junior and veteran members. The club's Hunstrete complex epitomises well run still waters while keeping its rivers and canal
roots alive by successfully running the sections of the Bristol Avon and Kennet and Avon Canal that are under its control.
